The Queen Bees hosted newly promoted Billingham Wildcats in the Women’s
Premier League on Saturday and gave them a tough welcome.
The Queen Bees dominated from the outset but
Billingham looked up for the challenge in the opening minutes. The Queen
Bees opened the scoring in the sixth minute through Amanda Carr and Jo
Couture took the tally to 2 just two minutes later. The Queen Bees rounded
the period off with a stunning solo goal from Sam Bidmead who took a
perfectly placed top corner shot for 3-0 at the break.
The Queen Bees truly commanded the game in the second
period out-shooting their visitors by 16-2. Sam Phillips started the
scoring in this period 7 minutes in, then Vicki Burton made it 5-0 at the
halfway point. The final marker of the period came from Dani Summers to
take the game to 6-0 at the break.
The third period saw Queen Bees’ coach John Hubbell
give new back-up goalkeeper Charlotte Bowyer her debut for the team and
mix the lines around a little to try some new combinations. The shake up
gave Billingham a few more chances but Bracknell kept the pressure high,
out-shooting the Wildcats 20-8 in this period.
Burton and Chrissy Newman scored early on and within
30 seconds of each other to take the tally to 8 before Bowyer made a great
save to keep the scoreline. With 11 minutes to go Billingham pulled a goal
back with a long-range shot from Emma Gourley but Bracknell were more than
equal to it and put another 4 in the Billingham net from Newman, Summers,
Couture and a debut goal from junior Daisy Dorme to take the final score
to 12-1.
Player of the match for the Queen Bees was Chrissy
Newman.
