Bracknell Queen Bees

Match Report

Kingston Diamonds v Queen Bees - 30th September 2007

The Queen Bees now sit 4 points clear at top the Women’s Premier League after taking 4 points from their road-trip to Newcastle and Kingston. Sunday saw the Queen Bees head to Hull to face Kingston Diamonds for a lunchtime face-off.

Despite being visibly tired from the previous night’s game in Newcastle the Queen Bees put in a solid performance and took the lead through Amanda Carr in the fourth minute with a wrap-around goal. Half-way through the period Bracknell made it 2-0 through Burton then Wells made it 3-0 going into the break.

The three goal lead made it look like Bracknell were well in control but Kingston came out hard in the second period and took the game to the Queen Bees. Despite several good chances for the hosts Galea kept the Diamonds out of the game until Bracknell re-took control and took their tally to 4 through Evans.

A break-away for Kingston’s Kate Rigby gave them a chance to get back in the game just before the break but Galea was equal to it keeping the Queen Bees’ shut-out at the break.

The third period saw Charlotte Bowyer take over in the Bracknell net and the Queen Bees rallied hard with tired legs to hold their hosts. Rigby was gifted another break-away for Kingston after a Bracknell defensive error and this time converted it with a fantastic top corner shot to beat a cold Bowyer on her first shot of the game.

A short while later Kingston were again given a chance to reduce the deficit when Sophie Lawton got a clear break-away but this time Bowyer made a terrific save to hold the score-line at 4-1.

At the half-way mark an incident around the host’s net saw both teams lose a player for the remainder of the game, Bracknell’s Dani Summers receiving a match ban for a punch to the back of the head of a Kingston player.

Despite being 2 player’s down due to Summers’ 5 minute penalty, which was served by Jasmin Long, and another 2 minute penalty given to Bracknell’s Burton, the Queen Bees held Kingston off for the remainder of the game and were elated to have taken 4 points from the long trip north.

Player-of-the-match for Bracknell was Kirsty Evans.
